STANDISH — A single car crash on the Manchester Road in Standish sent a teenage boy to the hospital with serious injuries this afternoon.
Capt. Shawn O’Leary of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said emergency crews found an Acura Integra in the woods when they arrived at the scene around 4:50 p.m.
Two 17-year-old boys were inside the car. One was trapped. He had to be extricated and was transported by Lifeflight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland with injuries to his lower extremities.
The other boy was treated at the scene and released to his parents.
O’Leary said it appears the car failed to negotiate a curve, left the road, and struck several trees. Investigators believe that speed may have been a factor in the crash. Alcohol was not a factor.
