AUGUSTA — Maine’s governor says the state has created a new Web site devoted to information about the state’s role in the Civil War.
Gov. John Baldacci announced the site today, which was the 149th anniversary of the first shot of the war at Fort Sumter in South Carolina.
Baldacci said the first information on the site is a list of the Civil War monuments in Maine, compiled by state historian Earle Shettleworth.
More information will be added to the site in the months ahead in preparation for the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War.
