AUGUSTA — The Maine Medical Examiner’s Office says an autopsy on the victim of a police shooting in northern Maine was inconclusive.

A spokeswoman said today’s autopsy failed to conclusively determine the cause of death of 55-year-old Neil Begin, who was shot by police on Friday and died early the next day.

Little is known about the shooting. The Attorney General’s Office, which is in charge of investigating police shootings, has declined to say why a state police officer and a federal border patrol agent were at Begin’s mobile home in Cyr Plantation, which is near Van Buren.

The state police officer is identified as Trooper Robert Flynn. A Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman declined today to identify the agent.
