Theresa Barrows, of Worcester, Mass., receives a hug from her parents, Brian and Karen Barrows, after getting her pin during the Nurse Pinning Ceremony at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish on Friday. Each nursing major is “pinned” by the person he or she has chosen. Saint Joseph’s pinning ceremony tradition began with its first class of nursing majors in 1978. It is a symbolic welcoming of newly graduated nurses into the nursing profession.
