Wednesday blew in wet and windy, bringing an early end to the Southwestern Maine Activities Association’s annual field hockey Play Day at Fitzpatrick Stadium. Seventeen teams were scheduled to play, but the event was stopped midway through the schedule because of rain and field conditions. The artificial turf at Fitzpatrick Stadium was soaked, with puddles pooling and stopping the ball as it rolled. And then a bubble in the turf rose in front of one of the goals, prompting officials to stop play.
