The Scarborough Fire Department responded to alarms at the high school around 5 p.m. this evening.

When crews arrived, there was smoke in the building and alarms on the first floor were sounding, according to the department. Smoke was traced to a kiln in the art room, which was on and apparently overheated.

Crews spent an hour clearing the building of all smoke and saw no apparent damage, the department said.
