The Cape Elizabeth High School field hockey team saw their season end sooner than they would have liked this week, losing to Greely 4-3 in a Class B field hockey playoff on Oct. 19.

The Capers, who came into the game as the sixth seed finish the season 7-7-1. The No. 3 Rangers are now 11-4.

Cape opened the game with a quick goal by Ally Boyington, who put the Capers on the board less than 30 seconds into play. That score held up for almost 15 minutes until Greely tied it at one on a Jackie Andrew goal off a penalty corner.

Cape grabbed the lead right back about six minutes later, this time getting a goal from Lauren Steidel. But once again, the Rangers answered right back as Rachel Hanson tied things at 2-2 with just under six minutes to play in the first half.

The score remained tied through the halftime break, and at about 4:30 into the second half, Greely took its first lead of the contest on a Sarah Howard goal that made it 3-2. Once again, the Capers fought right back, tying the game at 3-3 when Steidel scored with 20:53 left on the clock.

That was it for the scoring for a while, as both teams battled for the deciding goal. Finally, with just over 2:30 to go, Greely struck the big blow as Eliza Porter took a pass from Ceci Hodgkins and scored what proved to be the goal that ended the Capers season.
