NORTH YARMOUTH — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a New Gloucester man who led police on a nearly 11-mile chase Nov. 5.

At about 6:50 p.m. that night Deputy Brad Rogers reported a white 1997 Kia traveling east on Bald Hill Road in New Gloucester near Route 100. Police reportedly ran the license plate, found it did not match the registration and attempted to pull the vehicle over.

The John S. Fox, 31, of Shaw Road, reportedly refused to stop and led deputies on a 10.7-mile chase that reached speeds of 80 mph. Deputies did not pursue the vehicle after it turned onto railroad tracks off of North Road in North Yarmouth and got stuck in a swamp.

Fox then reportedly fled into the woods and a police K9 search of the area did not locate him. Police sought warrants for his arrest for eluding a police officer, operating after suspension (habitual offender status), probation violation and improper registration plates.

The passenger, Fox’s wife, Jennifer Fox, 34, of the same address, was issued a summons at the scene on a charge of hindering apprehension and possession of scheduled drugs (prescription medication).

People with information about John Fox’s whereabouts were asked to call the sheriff’s office at 893-2810.
