FALMOUTH — The town has received more than $17,000 from the Maine Municipal Association for its 2009 workers compensation loss ratio.

The town’s loss ratio, or amount paid for insurance versus amount actually paid out, was 8.8 percent, significantly below the 40 percent or less objective set by MMA.

In fiscal year 2008, the town contributed nearly $279,000 to workers compensation. That contribution decreased to more than $189,000 in FY 2010, which town officials attributed to a strengthened safety culture and more training.

Falmouth received the seventh largest payment distributed by MMA in 2010. According to MMA, more than 75 percent of towns participating in the self-funded pool for corkers compensation receive dividends each year.
