SCARBOROUGH — A Vassalboro man faces charges of drunk driving, eluding police and being a habitual motor vehicle offender after trying to escape police Sunday then crashing into a car full of children in Scarborough.

State Trooper Edmund Furtado tried to pull over Anthony Teabout, 41, who was driving a 2006 Dodge Charger with no license plate, police said. Furtado activated his emergency lights at mile 42 of the Maine Turnpike at 6 p.m. but instead of pulling over, Teabout sped up, reaching speeds of 100 mph, State Police said.

Two miles later, after taking Exit 44 and getting on Interstate 295, Teabout lost control and slammed into a minivan driven by Danielle Bailey, 34, of Woolwich. Three of the four passengers in Bailey’s car were children, police said. Two of them sustained minor injuries.

Both vehicles were destroyed.

Teabout has four prior convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Teabout is being treated at Maine Medical Center for facial and rib injuries sustained in the crash.
