Police say a Vassalboro man who led a state trooper on a high-speed chase before crashing into a car carrying children now faces charges of driving drunk, eluding police and being a habitual offender.

It was the second highway chase in recent months that ended with a crash involving children.

At 6 p.m. Sunday, Anthony Teabout, 41, was driving north on the Maine Turnpike in Scarborough in a 2006 Dodge Charger when Trooper Edmund Furtado tried to pull him over because the car lacked a license plate, police said.

Furtado turned on his emergency lights at mile 42 of the turnpike. Instead of pulling over, Teabout sped up, reaching 100 mph, state police said.

Two miles later, after taking Exit 44 and getting onto Interstate 295, Teabout lost control and slammed into a minivan driven by Danielle Bailey, 34, of Woolwich.

Three of the four passengers in Bailey’s car were children, police said. Two of them sustained minor injuries. Both vehicles were destroyed.

Teabout has four convictions for driving with a suspended license, and his license was still suspended on Sunday, police said. He was being treated for facial and rib injuries Monday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

On Nov. 26, another high-speed chase ended with a frightening crash involving a car carrying children.

Police say Timothy Williams, 39, of South Portland tried to escape from a Kittery police officer, driving more than 80 mph on the Maine Turnpike before crashing into the vehicle of a family driving home from Thanksgiving, including a toddler and an infant who were in car seats. The crash destroyed the family’s Subaru, but no one in the car was injured.

Kittery police said Williams was intoxicated, although his lawyer said there was no evidence of that.

His criminal record in Massachusetts includes assault, carrying a dangerous weapon and driving with a revoked license, Kittery police said.

He is due in court next month in connection with the crash.
