After three of four events in the Class A and C ski state championships, the familiar names of Mt. Blue, Fort Kent and Freeport lead the way into today’s culminating Nordic classic race – in Presque Isle for Class A and in Rangeley for Class C.

The Mt. Blue boys hold a commanding lead of more than 100 points in Class A after finishing as Alpine runner-up to Skowhegan 134-138 Wednesday at Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill.

James Jackson of Edward Little added the individual slalom title Wednesday after winning Tuesday’s giant slalom. His combined slalom time of 1 minute, 20.92 seconds was more than 4 seconds faster than that of runner-up Ethan Burke of Hampden Academy.

Marshwood took third in Alpine competition with 167 points. Edward Little was fourth (193) and Windham (198) fifth among 13 schools.

Toby Ratoff of Kennebunk was the individual girls’ winner. She edged Allarie Lever of Edward Little by less than half a second in 1:33.33. Tuesday’s giant slalom champion, Maddie Whittier of Greely, was third in 1:34.14.

That helped Greely win the Alpine championship with a two-day total of 57 points. Kennebunk and Edward Little tied for second with 115 followed by Mt. Blue (119), Oxford Hills (203), Fryeburg Academy (212) and five other schools.

In the overall standings, Mt. Blue’s girls lead a tight three-way race with Edward Little (153) and Greely (175). Mt. Blue’s boys have 173 to 292 for Greely and 308 for Oxford Hills.

In Class C action at Saddleback Mountain Wednesday, Alex Rose and Lindsey Jacques of Livermore Falls each won individual slalom titles. It was Rose’s third Class C slalom title in a row.

Jacques also won Tuesday’s giant slalom race. Elly Bengtsson of Freeport was the girls’ slalom runner-up Wednesday with a time of 1:16.13 to 1:13.25 for Jacques.

Rose won the boys’ race in 1:06.53, more than three seconds faster than Ryan Collet of Freeport. Giant slalom champion Cody Jacques of Livermore Falls was third at 1:11.70.

Freeport’s girls won the Alpine state title with 32 points to Fort Kent’s 81. Livermore Falls was third at 140 and John Bapst fourth at 150.

Overall, Freeport holds a 97-103 lead over Fort Kent, with John Bapst well back at 353.

For Class C boys, Central Aroostook edged Fort Kent, 112-115, for the Alpine crown. Freeport was third at 135 and Livermore Falls fourth at 155 followed by seven other schools.

Overall, Fort Kent’s boys take a 10-point lead (167-177) into today’s classic race, with Telstar (303) and Livermore Falls (367) well back.

Fort Kent dominates the skimeister competition, with Logan Doak (24) and Ted Martin (53) among the top boys and Roxanne Pelletier (24) and Kate Morneault (35) among the top girls.
