PORTLAND — Maine State Police have charged Joel Hayden with two counts of murder in connection with a shooting in New Gloucester.
Hayden, 29, is suspected of killing 27-year-old Renee Sandora of New Gloucester and 28-year-old Trevor Mills of New Bedford, Mass., on Monday. Sandora is the mother of Hayden’s children and Mills is his longtime friend, according to police.
Police said Hayden was arrested about 12:45 this afternoon upon his release from Maine Medical Center. He was immediately taken to Cumberland County Superior Court for his initial court appearance and then to the Cumberland County jail.
Autopsies on the bodies of Sandora and Mills are scheduled for Thursday.
LEWISTON — The second victim of a Monday shooting in New Gloucester has died.
Maine State Police said this morning that Trevor Mills, 28, of New Bedford, Mass., died last night at Central Maine Medical Center.
The other shooting victim, 27-year-old Renee Sandora of New Gloucester, died Tuesday.
The suspect, 29-year-old Joel Hayden, remains in police custody at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Police said charges are likely to be filed as his medical condition improves. He was injured in a crash after leading police on a chase Monday.
