Ben True of North Yarmouth placed second to Australian Craig Mottram in the Aviva London Grand Prix  5,000-meter race today.

It marked the first European race of True’s running career. His time of 13 minutes, 28.21 seconds fell short of the Olympic ‘A’ qualifying standard of 13:20.

Mottram won the race in 13:23.97. The rest of the field was far behind, with Arizona State graduate Brandon Bethke third in 13:33.16.

After the race, True lamented the fact that he would be missing either running or watching the Beach to Beacon 10K in Cape Elizabeth for the first time in its 14-year history.
