FRYEBURG — Organizers say overall paid attendance at Maine’s largest agricultural fair was down this year, but warm temperatures drew a record number of people on the fair’s final day.

The Fryeburg Fair got off to a slow start with rain and cold weather. The eight-day event ended Sunday with a total paid attendance of 160,836, down by about 10,000 from 2010.

But the fair was packed over the weekend, with temperatures reaching into the 80s.

The Sun Journal reports that 40,000 people showed up on Saturday. Sunday’s attendance of about 28,000 was a record high for the final Sunday of the fair.
