The Westport Island History Committee plans to host a slide show of historic images, including this early 20th century photo of the “Lower School,” at 2 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Westport Island Town Office. The program is titled “Old Meets New: Island Lantern Slides Go Digital.” Last year, the Westport Community Association donated about 160 glass lantern slides to the Town History Committee, which received a grant from the Doggett Trust to digitize the images and store them in acid-free padded boxes. The images include tidal sawmills, grist mills, farms, the “new” bridge from 1950 and other locales. Those who attend are invited to bring their own island photos, stories and memories. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served. The Westport Island Town Office is on Fowles Point Road. For more information, call 882-6055.
