Tough night on hardwood for locals

BRUNSWICK — The Mt. Ararat/ Lisbon boys high school hockey team dominated from start to finish in a 2-0 Eastern A victory over Windham/ Sacopee Valley on Thursday at Sidney J. Watson Arena.

“We rolled four lines, played five defensemen and pretty much got everybody some playing time and experience,” said Mt. Ararat/Lisbon coach Mike Bishop, whose team improved to 5- 6 and hosts Cony on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Evan Tome staked the Eagles to a 1-0 lead with 8:18 remaining in the first period of an assist from Justin Grant. Eric Stuckey’s unassisted goal in the second period doubled the lead, and goaltender Zach O’Connor made 12 stops for the shutout.

Mt. Ararat/Lisbon held a 52-12 shot advantage.

Windham/Sacopee Valley ( 1- 13- 1) goaltender Curtis Merrill had 50 saves.

Host Madison jumped out to a 19-5 first-quarter lead and pulled away from there for a Mountain Valley Conference win.

The 13-3 Bulldogs led 29-11 at the half and 43- 19 after three quarters.

“They used a stifling press to take command in the first quarter and we never recovered,” said Wiscasset coach Patrick Quinn, whose team is 2-14 and visits St. Dom’s on Tuesday.

Kayla Connors paced the Wolverines with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Briana Goud chipped in nine.

Kirsten Wood led Madison with 13 points, Alex Jarvais had 10 and Sam Bruce chipped in seven points and six rebounds.

The Seahawks showed little mercy in rolling past 1-16 Lisbon in MVC action.

Boothbay ( 12- 4) led 28- 8 after a quarter, 46-15 at the break and 64-26 heading to the fourth quarter.

Anthony DiMauro led Boothbay with 20 points, with Ben Dickinson and Ben Woodman finishing with nine points apiece. The Seahawks were eight of 12 from the foul line.

Lisbon, which was one of seven at the charity stripe, was led by Mason Smith’s 15 points and five from Derrick Lycette. Tucker Brannon dished out six assists.

The Greyhounds are slated to play their season finale on Monday at home against Monmouth.

The host Bulldogs outscored Wiscasset 29-15 in the fourth quarter en route to a come-from-behind MVC victory.

Austin Kane led 9-7 Madison with 27 points, including 14 in the finale frame as Madison came back from a 52-45 deficit through three quarters.

The Wolverines trailed 16- 14 after a quarter and 34-29 at the half, but got things going in the third quarter, taking a seven-point lead after outscoring Madison 23-11.

“We led by 10 or 11 late in the third quarter, and we were taking care of the ball and playing good defense,” said Wiscasset ( 9- 7) coach Dana Lawrence, whose team visits St. Dom’s on Monday.

Devin Grover was 10 of 15 at the foul line in leading Wiscasset with 27 points and three steals. Jordan Jones had 21 points, including three treys. The Wolverines were 17 of 32 from the line, and Travis Padilla pulled down 11 rebounds.

MJ Flanders chipped in 11 points for Madison, and Steven Lawrence added nine.
