Biathlon for Fun, 10 a.m. in Jefferson

Hidden Valley Nature Center is hosting a 1-kilometer cross-country skiing and target shooting race, which will be held as a foot race if there is no snow. Between rounds of skiing/running, participants will swing through the shooting arena and shoot pellet guns from a prone position. Arrive no later than 10 a.m. for a mandatory gun safety clinic. A ski clinic will be available before the race, which starts at 11:30. A snowshoe race for all ages also will be held. Snowshoes are available by prior arrangement. Guns are provided. Hike in the Park, 2 p.m. in Freeport

Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park offers nature programs year-round every weekend. This week’s program focuses on the wonder of Maine’s pine tree forest. Meet at the benches at the end of the second parking lot. Free with park admission, which is $1 for ages 5 to 11 and $3 for ages 12 to 64. Call the day of the program for updates, 865-4465.

The Appalachian Mountain Club is again offering its international dinner and adventure series, featuring cuisine from another culture and a guest speaker who tells an adventure from that region of the world. Bird Walks, 8 a.m. in Freeport

Free guided walks are offered every Saturday at Freeport Wild Bird Supply. Meet at the store at 541 Route 1. Usually, walks involve a short car-pool trip to a site of seasonal interest.
