Language instruction workshop

McArthur Library is holding an event to teach its patrons about Mango Languages, a free online program for language instruction that is geared to travelers.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the library.

The library staff will give a demonstration of the Mango Languages instruction program. There will be smoothies and prizes.

Laptops will be available for visitors to try learning a new language. Some of the languages that can be learned with Mango include French, German, Spanish and Italian.

Jay Robbins, of Robbins Historical Research, Inc., will give a talk, “Wresting a Living from Our Land: Edgecomb’s Industrious Past,” at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Boothbay Railway Village.

Fishing talk

Bill Anderson, a longtime offshore trawler man, will give a talk at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Conway House complex on Route One in Camden.

Anderson will talk about fishing year round off the Grand Banks of Newfoundland in the 1960’s. He fished for 40 years, on side trawlers and in the 1970’s, off stern trawlers. He sailed as deck hand, cook, engineer, captain and boat owner.

Rabies clinic Sunday

The Coastal Humane Society is hosting a rabies plus clinic from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday at the shelter, 30 Range Rd.

An ear cleaning and nail trimming costs $5 to $10 each. Micro-chipping is available for $25 per pet. Rabies vaccinations are available for dogs and cats only at $10 each.

All proceeds benefit the Coastal Humane Society.

Maine history talk

Pejepscot Genealogy Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Curtis Memorial Library.

The guest speaker will be Fred Koerber, a local educator, historian and archeologist.

Koerber, of Brunswick, will give a talk about The Reverend Robert Jordan, a Maine historical figure, who is documented as arriving at Richmond Island off Cape Elizabeth in 1640.

There will be a business meeting after the presentation.

Money Works for Women

There will be discussion about Jason Zweig’s book “Your Money & Your Brain,” at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St.

The free talk is being offered  as part of the library’s Money Works for Women financial literacy program.
