FREEPORT — Nina Davenport and Alex Mitch combined on 19 second- half points as the Freeport High School girls basketball team won its fourth consecutive Western Maine Conference contest with a 49-31 victory over Old Orchard Beach on Friday.

The Falcons finished 9-9, good for the No. 11 seed in Western Maine Class B. Freeport will visit sixth-seeded Wells (13-5) on Wednesday, with tip-off set for 7 p.m.

Freeport led 10- 6 after a quarter and 24-20 at the half. Davenport, who had 16 points, and Mitch (13 points, three assists, five steals) took over as the Falcons extended their advantage to 38-26 through 24 minutes.

Leigh Wyman chipped in nine points and six steals for Freeport, which finished six of 16 from the foul line.

RICHMOND 43

Coach Phil Houdlette coached his final game at Richmond ( 4- 14), with his Bobcats battling hard in an East-West Conference loss to 12-6 Greenville on Friday.

“ The kids played hard,” said Houdlette, who leaves along with seniors Ben Carver, Tyler Harrington, Brian Snedeker and Kade Strout.

Harrington had a doubledouble with 11 points and 11 caroms, while Strout also scored 11 points and Snedeker 10. The Bobcats were one of three at the line.

Greenville, which posted quarter leads of 16-10, 32-22 and 40- 30, were paced by Howie Stone’s 12 points and JoJo Pelletier’s 10. The Lakers were six of 10 at the line.

Mitch Loeman had a gamehigh 24 points and teammate Chandler Birmingham drained six 3-pointers for 22 points as the Falcons finished the WMC regular season with a win at Old Orchard Beach on Friday.

“All season we struggled to put together a full game, and in this one we did,” said first-year Freeport coach Matt Cook, whose team finished 4-14 and loses seniors Loeman, Jose Rosquete, Josh Weirich and Spencer Bernier.

Freeport jumped on top 16-12 in the first quarter, led 32-27 at the half and 50-38 through three quarters. The Falcons finished 14 of 21 at the foul line. Weirich pulled down seven caroms and dished out five assists, with Rosquete dishing out five assists and Loeman pulling down eight rebounds.

RICHMOND 38

The host Bobcats finished off a 16-1 regular season and garnered the top seed in Western Maine Class D.

Richmond will face the winner of the No. 9 Buckfield/No. 8 Valley contest in the Western D quarterfinals on Feb. 21 at the Augusta Civic Center at 11:30 a.m.

Jamie Plummer paced Richmond with 18 points against the 12-6 Lakers, while Brianna Snedeker chipped in eight points and team-high 11 rebounds. Alyssa Pearson had eight boards, and Richmond was seven of 18 at the foul line.
