CARIBOU, Maine — A winter storm has dumped nearly 20 inches of snow on parts of northern Maine.

The National Weather Service says the storm that entered the state on Friday and left northern Maine on Saturday dropped 19½ inches of snow on Ft. Kent and 19 inches on Madawaska. Saint Francis and Eagle Lake got 17 inches, while Presque Isle, Caribou and Limestone all got more than a foot.

Maine ski areas reported healthy doses of new snow and central Maine received roughly 4 to 8 inches, but some coastal and southern areas got mostly rain.

The snow could help many of the state’s winter-sports industries, which have been severely hampered by the mild winter weather.
