BRUNSWICK

And what do you do for a living, Mrs. Levi?” asks Ambrose Kemper in the first scene of the musical comedy, “Hello, Dolly!” “Some people paint, some sew … I meddle,” replies Dolly.

The Midcoast Youth Theater’s production of “Hello, Dolly!” will show the title character at her most musical and meddlesome. The show opens at 7 p.m. Thursday in Crooker Theater at Brunswick High School.

A Midcoast Youth Theater describes the production as follows:

Tracy Kapocius embodies Dolly Levi with her powerful vocals and commanding presence. Her matchmaking intertwines a host of characters: the elegant Mrs. Molloy (Marcelle Lachance); sweet Minnie Fae (Megan Saw- icki); Vandergelder’s lovestruck niece, Ermengarde (Lilly Gardiner); unforgettable Ernestina (Shirley Bernier); the curmudgeon turned softy, Horace Vandergelder (Cornelius Donovan); unassuming Ambrose (Cody Watson); and Cornelius (Newton Dubbs) and Barnaby (Bryce Reed).

The cast is complemented by the ensemble members playing townspeople, waiters and cook staff, and polka dancers.

The busy scene at The Harmonia Gardens is one not to be missed.

Comedy mixes with powerful musical numbers, highlighted by Linda Gardiner’s choreography and the musical direction of Courtney Babbidge and Ben Proctor.

Bev Diller and Carol Leach created the period look for the show with their costuming skills. The production was brought together by the talent of Midcoast Youth Theater’s longtime director and founding member, Henry Eichman.

The cast ranges in age from 6 to 60.

In addition to Thursday’s performance, 7 p.m. shows are scheduled for May 4 and 5. A 2 p.m. matinee is scheduled for May 6.

Tickets, available at the door, cost $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Advance tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/244794.
