TOPSHAM — Mt. Ararat High School has announced the top 10 academically ranked students in the class of 2012. The school serves students in grades nine through 12 from Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell and Topsham.

Seth Bryant of Topsham has earned the top rank in the Class of 2012. He is the son of Patricia and Darin Bryant. He attended Williams-Cone Elementary School in Topsham. His school activities include National Honor Society, cross country, indoor/outdoor track, the math team, the science fair and band.

Bryant’s academic honors include: Excellence in Science in grades 9, 10 and 11; Excellence in Math in grades 10 and 11; Excellence in History in grade 10; Excellence in English in grades 10 and 11; Yale Book Award; National Merit Scholar Semi-finalist; AP Scholar Award; Excellence in Physical Education; and KVAC All Academiccross country, indoor track.

Bryant plans to attend Villanova University and study civil and environmental engineering. A teacher who had a strong influence on him was former English teacher Janet Galle.

Joshua Wright ranks second in his class. He is the son of Candice and Greg Wright and lives in Harpswell where he attended Harpswell Island Elementary School.

Wright’s school activities include Student Senate, Class President 2008-2012, Student Council, math team, National Honor Society, soccer (captain in 2011), basketball (captain 2011-12), and track. He also participated on the Gold Rush Basketball Camp-All Star Team 2010 and received a Hoop Camp coach’s award in 2009.

His academic honors include National Merit Commended Scholar, Phi Kappa Beta Award, Princeton Book Award, AP Scholar with Distinction, Maine McDonald’s Academic All-State Team- Basketball 2012, KVAC Boys Soccer All-Academic Team, KVAC Boys Basketball, Honorable Mention, Excellence in Mathematics (grades 9, 10 and 11), Excellence in History (grades 9, 10 and 11), Excellence in Physical Education, and second place at the state science fair in 2009.

Wright will attend Northeastern University and study engineering. A teacher who had a strong influence on him was Courtney Reichert.

Morgana Warner-Evans is third in her class. She is the daughter of Marianne Warner and Glenn Evans and lives in West Bath where she attended West Bath Elementary School.

Warner-Evans’ activities have included Civil Rights Team for which she received a service award from the Brunswick Rotary Club, Mt. Ararat Stage Company for which she researched and wrote a local history play with her sister in 12th grade, and the Poetry Out Loud contest in grade 11 in which she was a Southern Maine regional semi-finalist. She is also a political singer-songwriter.

Her academic honors include National Merit Finalist, Wellesley College Book Award, AP Scholar and Pejepscot Historical Society Book Award.

Warner-Evans will attend Haverford College and notes that after college, “I want to either go into the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps,” and perhaps attend law school someday. Her eighth-grade English teacher, Sharon Bowman, had a strong influence on her.

Ranking fourth in the class is Morgan Martin of Bowdoin, the daughter of Tina and Dan Martin. She attended Bowdoin Central Elementary School.

Martin’s school activities include cross country, Nordic Skiing, outdoor track, National Honor Society (president), Big Brothers/Big Sisters mentoring, math team and District III Honors Band. Her academic honors include first place at the state science fair in 2010, Northern New England Junior Science and Humanities Symposium participant, Excellence Awards in freshman science, physical education, health, English and French IV, the Williams Book Award, Poetry Out Loud school runner-up, and KVAC All-Academic Athlete.

Martin will attend the University of Maine in Orono to earn a pre-physical therapy under graduate degree and continue to graduate school for a doctorate in physical therapy.

Asked if a teacher has provided a strong influence, “Many have influenced me positively,” Martin stated.

Nathan Bryant, son of Patricia and Darin Bryant of Topsham, ranks fifth in the Class of 2012. Bryant attended Williams-Cone Elementary School. His school activities include National Honor Society, math team, soccer, indoor/outdoor track, science fair and band.

Academically, Bryant has been a National Merit Scholar Semi-finalist, earned an AP Scholar Award, and Dartmouth Book Award, and has been recognized for Excellence in Math in grades 10 and 11; as well as Excellence in Physical Education. He has been recognized as a KVAC All Academic for track and soccer.

Bryant will attend Boston College and major in business and finance. Teachers who have had a strong influence on him have been English teachers Stu Palmer and Janet Galle.

The sixth-ranked class member is Hilary Warner- Evans, daughter of Marianne Warner and Glenn Evans. Warner-Evans resides in West Bath where she attended West Bath Elementary School.

Her school activities include Mt. Ararat Stage Company where she helped write the play “Le Moulin” with her sister, Science Olympiad, Civil Rights Team for which she received a Rotary Club “Service of Self” Award, and Poetry Out Loud.

Academic honors bestowed upon Warner-Evans include: Best Freshman in English, Best Freshman in German, Best Freshman in History, Wesleyan University Book Award, and Science Olympiad awards including in 2009 a second place for fossils, in 2010 third place in fossils, in 2011 first place in fossils and third place in ornithology, and in 2010 she earned first place in the rocks and minerals category.

Warner-Evans will attend the University of Maine in Orono and major in anthropology with a minor in Medieval Renaissance studies. She would like to go on to graduate school to study Folklore. Teacher Emily Vail has had a strong influence on her.

The son of Kerry O’Brien and Paul Plumer, Daniel Plumer of Topsham ranks seventh in his class. He attended Woodside Elementary School.

Plumer’s school activities include Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Mt. Ararat Stage Company, and the Four Times as Good barbershop quartet. His academic honors include a bronze medal in physics in the 2009 Maine State Science Fair, the Social Studies Award in 2010, and the Spanish Award in 2011.

Plumer will attend Skidmore College and study music and Spanish. He has been strongly influenced by Allen Graffam, band director and head of the music department for Mt. Ararat.

Caroline Minott is eighth in her class. She is the daughter of Laurie and James Minott and lives in Bowdoin where she attended Bowdoin Central Elementary School.

Minott’s school activities include Interact Club (2008- 2012, Vice President in grade 11 and President in grade 12), Science Olympiad 2008-2012 (third place in bridges, third place in catapult, fourth place in fossils, fifth place in experimental design, fifth place in dynamic planet), PALS copresident, student representative on School Administrative District 75 Health Board, Mt. Ararat Stage Company, varsity basketball manager, Books n’ Munchies, Mixed Choir for District III, Honors Choir, Mt. Ararat Chamber Singers (grades 10-12), Treble Choir (grade 9) and Aquila. She has also served as a Mid Coast Hospital junior volunteer and Maine State Music Theatre usher.

Her academic honors include Maine Principals Award, Brunswick Rotary Club “Service of Self” Award, Mt. Holyoke College book Award, Student of the Month Nominee, Excellence in Ancient World Cultures, National Honor Society, second place in human psychology at the Maine State Science Fair and Excellence in English Award. She also attended Science Olympiad Nationals in Wisconsin.

Minott will attend Colby College and study biology with plans to go on to medical school. A teacher who had a strong influence on her is Rebecca Williams.

Ranked ninth in her class, Brianna Bishop is the daughter of Karen and Mike Bishop of Bowdoin. She attended Bowdoin Central Elementary School.

Bishop’s school activities include Science Olympiad, National Honor Society, the science fair, math team, Aquila and Interact Club. Her academic honors include National Honor Society, National Merit Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, and the Elmira College Key Award.

Bishop will attend Bowdoin College and major in English, political science or government with a minor in film study. She has been influenced by teachers Courtney Reichert and Stu Palmer.

Sarena Hall is ranked 10th in the Class of 2012. She is the daughter of Diane and Nate Hall and lives in Topsham where she attended Woodside Elementary School. Her school activities include varsity and junior varsity softball, math team, Interact Club, Science Olympiad, Treble Choir and Chamber Singers.

Hall will attend the University of Connecticut and study pharmacy. Math teacher Carmen Palmer strongly influenced her during her high school career.

Graduation will be held Sunday, June 10, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Ararat High School. Weather permitting, the ceremony will be held outdoors but in the case of inclement weather, graduation will be
