BRUNSWICK — Downeast Energy held its 19th annual Downeast Energy Classic at the Brunswick Golf Club on Monday, where more than 140 golfers participated, all teeing up for a good cause.

Big Brothers Big Sisters (of Bath/Brunswick) and Jobs for Maine Graduates were the beneficiaries of this year’s tournament.

BBBS of Bath/Brunswick provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. BBBS has been serving youth in Brunswick, Harpswell and Sagadahoc County since 1981.

“We very much appreciate the generous support and continued partnership of Downeast Energy and its employees. This gift will help children achieve higher aspirations, greater confidence and educational success while having fun,” said Lindsay MacDonald at BBBS of Bath/Brunswick.

Similarly, Jobs for Maine Graduates is a statewide nonprofit that works within Maine’s public schools to help students reach their fullest potential. The organization tries to identify students who face barriers to education to guide each one to a successful path toward continued education, a meaningful career and productive adulthood.

The Downeast Golf Classic has raised more than $240,000 for local charities in the past 18 years. Other annual events supporting community outreach on behalf of Downeast Energy include: The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, The Moonlight Charity Challenge, and The Sweetser Holiday Toy Drive.
