PORTLAND — A Portland man faces felony charges after allegedly stabbing another man in the abdomen and chest during a fight over the weekend.

Jeremiah Schaffner, 21, turned himself in to Portland police Sunday and was charged with elevated aggravated assault.

Police say Schaffner got into a fight with Shawn Buck, 35, early Saturday. Both men are homeless and the incident happened in the woods along West Commercial Street.

Buck underwent surgery at Maine Medical Center where he is in satisfactory condition.

Schaffner is being held on $50,000 bail at the Cumberland County Jail pending a court appearance.
