JULIE L. HEROUX, left, and Tammy L. Richards Meserve are this year’s local recipients of the American Association of University Women’s scholarships.

BATH — Charlotte Price, scholarship selection committee chairwoman of the Bath- Brunswick Branch of the American Association of University Women, and Dennis Unger, director of University College at Bath/Brunswick, announced two recipients of AAUW scholarships for the region for the fall 2012 semester.

The scholarship pays tuition and fees for one introductory level college course.

“The AAUW scholarship committee and Bath- Brunswick board are pleased to continue our support of these non-traditional women students,” Price said in a release announcing the awards.

One recipient, Julie L. Geroux, was accepted into the University of Maine at Augusta bachelor of science in computer information systems degree program for fall 2012 and plans to start with two courses.

“I’m looking forward to starting college and launching a new stage of my career,” Geroux said. “The AAUW support eases the financial burden of getting under way.”

The other scholarship recipient, Tammy L. Richards Meserve, has completed linguistics courses through the University of Southern Maine. She has worked as a journalist, an ASL interpreter and is a children’s book author.

“I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to taking this next step to accomplishing my educational goals,” Meserve said in the release. “Having the support of the AAUW by becoming a recipient of this award is a motivation like no other.”

“I am enormously grateful to the members of the Bath- Brunswick branch of the AAUW for their continuing partnership with University College and their generosity in giving scholarships to these two deserving students,” Unger said in the release.
