AUGUSTA — A former president of Washington County Community College in eastern Maine will serve as its interim leader while a new president is being chosen.

William Cassidy will take over as interim president of the Calais school after the college’s current president, Joyce Hedlund, retires on June 30.

Cassidy served as president of the college from 2003 to 2009 and lives in Robbinston.

The search for a new president at the college began in February soon after Hedlund announced her retirement. The college board of trustees hopes to name a new leader by the end of the summer.
