From 1898 to 1906, Merrymeeting Park, an amusement park located on Merrymeeting Bay in Brunswick, drew visitors from across the region who traveled to the site primarily via trolley. Today, nothing remains of Merrymeeting Park’s impressive three-story casino building, pictured here, but hints of the site’s past are still visible. Christopher Gutscher, who has done extensive research on Merrymeeting Park, will lead a Pejepscot Historical Society walking tour of the Merrymeeting Park grounds at 1 p.m. Sunday. A trolley will carry tour participants from the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum in Brunswick to the former site of Merrymeeting Park, just as it would have more than 100 years ago. Space is limited, and registration is required. Admission is $2 in advance, $4 on the day of the tour, and free for PHS members. To sign up, call 729-6606.
