WISCASSET — The Maine Art Gallery, 15 Warren St. invites artists to submit two marine artworks on Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., for selection by juror J. Russell Jinishian.

Jinishian, a news release describes, is “recognized as the nation’s leading authority on contemporary marine art with over 35 years experience in the art field.”

Jinishian is the author of “Bound for Blue Water,” considered the definitive guide to contemporary marine art, the release constinues. He is publisher of Marine Art News magazine, the world’s only magazine devoted to marine art. He is the former director of the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport Museum.

From 1985 to 1995 he represented more than 300 of the top marine artists from around the world, sponsoring many groundbreaking exhibitions including the first-ever American exhibition by the British Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Dutch Society of Marine Artists.

Jinishian studied art and art history at the Sir John Cass School of Art in London and holds a bachelor of fine arts from Cornell University. He sits on the advisory board of the National Maritime Historical Society. He is a member of the New York Yacht Club, and an honorary member of the American Society of Marine Artists.

The fee for this exhibit is $15 for gallery members and $25 for nonmembers.
