GRAY — A late-summer storm that’s blustering its way up the East Coast is also prompting forecasters to post a tornado watch in Vermont.

So far, the National Weather Service says no watches have been issued in Maine or New Hampshire. But southern portions of New England — western Connecticut and Massachusetts — do have tornado watches.

In Maine, forecasters say thunderstorms packing high winds could hit much of the state. Meteorologist Tom Hawley says New Hampshire can’t rule out a severe front moving through about midnight. But Hawley says he’d be surprised to see severe weather from this storm affect Down East areas.
