FREEPORT – The Freeport Economic Development Corp. has named a new executive director to replace Sande Updegraph, who will be retiring in November.

Keith McBride, an economic development assistant for the city of Auburn, was hired Aug. 31 to replace Updegraph.

“I really like him,” Updegraph said. “I think he’s going to be extraordinary.”

McBride, 34, who lives in Gorham, said he was looking forward to getting started in Freeport. “I am honored to have been the person selected for this position out of a very strong pool of candidates,” he said. “More than anything, I am excited to begin, and I look forward to being a part of FEDC.”

The FEDC is a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to businesses and to companies looking to establish or expand business in Freeport.

Updegraph said McBride would start in Freeport on Oct. 1 and they would work together for “a week or two” to get him up to speed. She would then assume an on-call role until her final day with the organization on Nov. 15.
