WISCASSET — Morris Farm Trust is conducting a pastured poultry demonstration to give homeowners a firsthand look at raising meat birds for personal consumption at home. Chickens will be available to visit at the Wiscasset Primary School garden until Oct. 24.

In addition, Meat Birds 101, part of the Backyard Farmer education series, will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. in the Wiscasset Primary School garden at Morris Farm, 156 Gardiner Road.

This discussion on raising meat birds for personal consumption will be led by Kim Andersson.

Class attendees will get plans for their own chicken tractor — a mobile coop on wheels — plus detailed information on the costs of chickens, their feed, the tractor and a firsthand look at what a small flock of meat birds can do to the lawn.
