CONCORD, N.H. — Supporters of casino gambling in New Hampshire are encouraged by the fact that both major party candidates for governor support expanding it in some form.

But it’s not a sure thing, because any such proposal still would have to get through the state House and Senate, and similar proposals have failed to do so in the past.

Both Republican Ovide Lamontagne and Democrat Maggie Hassan say they support expanding casino gambling in New Hampshire. The Concord Monitor reports that some of the impetus comes from a desire to compete with Massachusetts, which last year authorized three casinos and a slots parlor.
