Masonic lodges across the region are holding open houses to raise awareness of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.

Open houses will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the lodge halls in Lisbon Falls, Pownal, Freeport, Bath and Bowdoinham.

Organized in Maine nearly 250 years ago, Freemasons trace their history back to the stomemason guilds that built Europe’s cathedrals and castles.

According to a news release, Masons donate nearly $3 million a day to charities, with more than two-thirds of that benefiting the general public.
