BRUNSWICK — Doris Wagg Parsons, 94, died at Midcoast Hospital on Thursday, October 11, 2012. She was born in Durham, ME on August 5, 1918, the daughter of Herbert J. and Mabel Owen Wagg. She grew up in Auburn, ME graduating from Edward Little High School in 1935 and Bates College in 1939.

On 7/4/42 she married Edward L. Parsons who predeceased her on 2/19/08.

Doris taught school in Auburn, ME but the bulk of her career was in the Brunswick School System where she taught at Longfellow School, Brunswick Jr. High School and was Principal of Longfellow and Hawthorne Schools.

She was a lifelong gardener and for several years she and Edward ran a small plant business from their home on Maine Street as well as writing a gardening column for the local newspaper.

After her retirement, she volunteered at the library and a hospice program. She was a member of First Parish Church and was actively involved in church affairs for many years. She would also wish to be remembered as an avid Red Sox fan.

Doris was extraordinarily giving of her time and talent and will be remembered for her indefatigable spirit and the phrase, “Twas ever thus.”

For the past few years, Doris was limited in her mobility but not limited in her mind. To the end she was telling her daughter to go home and take care of her dog, Spenser

Banjo.

She is survived by her four children, Edward Jr. of Smithfield, PA, Timothy and his wife Nancy of Denver, CO, Mary of Brunswick and Brian of Kirtland, OH; three grandchildren, Lindsey Fowler and her husband, Jon, Eric Parsons of Marietta, OH and Chris Parsons of Marietta, OH; a sister in law, Sylvia Parsons Rose of Brunswick; three nieces, Blanche Wagg Hays and her husband Carl of Batavia, IL, Jane Wagg Webb and her husband, Jack of Springvale, ME and Barbara Pelkey and her husband, Bill of Topsham, ME and many grand nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Doris’ wishes, there will be no memorial service or visitation. A private graveside service will be planned at a later time.

Memorial donations may be made to the Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St, Brunswick, ME 04011, First Parish Church, 9 Cleaveland St., Brunswick , ME 04011 or any other charity that would be meaningful for the donor. Arrangements are in the care of the Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick.
