Police say woman tried ?to kill husband

A Scarborough woman is in jail after police said she held her 6-month-old baby while firing a handgun at her husband with the intent to kill him Saturday night.

On its Facebook page, the Scarborough Police Department said Angela Haddad, 34, a resident at the West Oak Apartment Complex on Pin Oak Drive fired a .357 round at her husband during an argument.

“She admitted to investigating Officers that she wanted to kill her husband. The bullet did not strike anyone and the bullet hole was located in the wall above a rear window,” the post reads.

According to police, Haddad was arrested at 11:45 p.m. Saturday after a neighbor called 911 to say Haddard “had come into her apartment stating her husband was outside with a handgun.”

Haddad was arrested for aggravated reckless conduct “with terroristic intent” and endangering the welfare of a child. She was later charged with violating conditions of release. She is being held at Cumberland County Jail following arraignment at on Monday.

Niles named director

Albin, Randall & Bennett, a full-service certified public accounting firm based in Portland, has announced that Michael E. Niles, CPA has joined the firm as a director.

Giving Tree ?up at Inn ?by the Sea

From Thanksgiving through New Year’s a brightly decorated Giving Tree graces the fireplace lounge at Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth trimmed with paper decorations made by local students.

Inn guests and the community are invited to exchange warm mittens, scarves, hats or lip balm for the students’ handmade ornaments to help less fortunate neighbors. Visitors may also buy $10 bookmarks decorated by Dyer and Kaler elementary school students to purchase school books from a list provided by teachers, for their schools’ reading program.

In appreciation for the generous exchange, Inn by the Sea will issue a $20 gift certificate to each donor, valid in the SPA or Sea Glass at Inn by the Sea Jan. 2-June 14, 2013.

The clothes collected are distributed locally to food banks, schools, and Preble Street Chapel by Project GRACE (Granting Resources and Assistance through Community Effort), a Scarborough-based agency that provides assistance to residents of Southern Maine.

State Rep. Jane Eberle has worked for several years to team Inn by the Sea with students from Memorial Middle School’s REACH and Connection programs, third-grade students at Brown Elementary School, and South Portland High School’s Interact Club to create handmade holiday ornaments.

The inviting book marks are colorfully crafted around book themes, and 100 percent of the proceeds from the $10 bookmarks purchased by guests go to purchase school books. In 2010 and 2011, Inn by the Sea sold enough bookmarks to provided purchase 150 school books.

Cape woman takes stage

Hannah Wallace of Cape Elizabeth is one of the dancers in Butler Ballet’s 30th annual performance of The Nutrcracker, Nov. 29-Dec. 2 at Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University.

Butler Ballet’s 30th annual performance of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet will feature 124 dancers, including 34 young dancers from the Indianapolis community.

This year’s Nutcracker will feature the Butler Symphony Orchestra performing the score.

The Volunteer Lawyers Project presents “Lawyers in Libraries” at the Portland Public Library on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 6-7 p.m., in Meeting Room #5.

The clinic, part of a series made possible through the Maine State Library to provide legal information clinics, followed by legal representation clinics, will be streamed live at the Portland Public Library, on the Lower Level in Meeting Room #5. Attorney Jim McKenna, from the Maine Attorney General’s Office, will be talking about consumer issues.

Donate to Toys for Tots

All branches of the Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution are collecting donations for Toys to Tots through Friday, Dec. 7. Drop off new, unwrapped toys at the branch closest to you.

In addition, the bank has made a donation of $1,000 to Toys for Tots to assist the program in providing enough gifts for needy kids this holiday season.
