PORTLAND — The director of student services in a Massachusetts school district allegedly posed online as a 14-year-old boy and solicited sexually explicit photos of a 15-year-old Cumberland County girl from her, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Capt. Craig Smith said the sheriff’s office is trying to determine whether there are other victims of 47-year-old Steven Orloff of Framingham, Mass., who was arrested Wednesday on charges of distribution of obscene matter and posing or exhibiting a child in the nude.

Cumberland County sheriffs found out in July from the girl’s parents that she had exchanged illicit photos online with someone she thought was her age, Smith said. The photos Orloff sent were not of himself, according to the sheriff’s office.

Once investigators discovered Orloff was posing as the boy, they contacted Framingham police.

Orloff, who has worked for Stoneham Public Schools since July 2011, must stay away from those schools, leave his marital home, have no contact with children under 18 and surrender his passport, a judge ordered at his arraignment Wednesday in Framingham District Court.

Orloff is being held on $20,000 cash bail. His is scheduled to appear again in court on Jan. 14.
