AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage is asking Maine residents to observe a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the elementary school shooting in Connecticut.

LePage says Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy has declared Friday as a day of mourning in his state, while asking all governors to share in the observance by calling for a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Police say 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed his mother at their Newtown, Conn., home last week and then broke into the Sandy Hook Elementary School, where he killed 20 students and six adults before killing himself.
