PHIPPSBURG

Snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, dogsledding, winter tracking and more are on the program for the Phippsburg Sportsman’s Association’s Winter Youth Field Day on Sunday.

The Field Day is organized in a series of one-hour segments that give kids the opportunity to snowshoe and ski along wooded trails; track deer, bobcats and fox in the snow; and ride on and perhaps even drive a dogsled. In addition to the sports activities, educational demonstrations give kids the opportunity to meet a peregrine falcon up close and personal as Larry Barnes talks about falcons and the sport of falconry, to learn about bloodhounds and even try their skills at hiding from these incredible dogs, and to learn about taking care of themselves outdoors in the winter.

For the snowshoeing and skiing activities, loaner equipment will be available or kids may bring their own.

Winter Youth Field Day is held at the Phippsburg Sportsman’s Association’s facility on Route 209, Main Road. The Field Day begins at 7:30 a.m. sharp and continues until 4:30 p.m.

Lunch will be provided and there is no charge. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
