HARPSWELL — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has awarded the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust and Maine Coastal Heritage Land Trust a $300,000 grant to preserve more than 80 acres of land in West Harpswell.

The grant will help the two land trusts preserve uplands and wetlands on White Island and Wilson’s Cove, along with 4,000 feet of shoreline on the Casco Bay Estuary, according to a press release Wednesday. The area’s habitat include waterfowl, wading birds and shellfish.

The project is made possible by a partnership between the two land trusts and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
