Martha Veroneau of Waynflete was named Monday as one of three finalists for Miss Basketball by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches.

Kristen Anderson of Leavitt and Chandler Guerrette of Presque Isle are the other finalists for the award that goes to Maine’s top high school senior.

Garet Beal of Jonesport-Beals, John Murray of Medomak Valley and Mitchell Worcester of Washburn are the finalists for Mr. Basketball.

The winners will be announced Friday night at the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Awards Banquet at Husson University in Bangor.

Veroneau scored Waynflete’s final 16 points Saturday to rally the Flyers to a 59-55 win over Calais for the Class C state championship at the Bangor Auditorium. It was the Flyers’ first state title since 2003, when they were in Class D.

Veroneau averaged 19.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists this season. She passed the 1,000-point mark for her career early in the season.

Anderson averaged 20.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.4 assists but was slowed by injuries late in the season. She has accepted a basketball scholarship to the University of New Hampshire.

Guerrette scored 33 points — 14 in the fourth quarter — as Presque Isle captured its second straight Class B state championship Friday with a 51-44 win over Lake Region. The victory capped a second consecutive unbeaten season for the Wildcats, who lost only twice during Guerrette’s four varsity seasons.

Murray led Medomak Valley to the Eastern Class B boys’ championship, averaging 18.6 points and 12 rebounds.

Beal averaged 33.8 points, 10 rebounds and 7.4 assists, and Worcester averaged 26.1 points, 8.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists. Worcester finished his career with more than 2,000 points.

The Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Games are Saturday at Husson’s Newman Gym: Boys’ C-D, 9:15 a.m., boys’ A-B, 11; girls’ A-B, 12:45 p.m.; and girls’ C-D, 2:30 p.m.
