Dog Days

Dogs and dog owners are gathering at Hidden Valley Nature Center on April 28 for a dogs-in-the-park day. Meet at the gate and join the group. All well-behaved dogs that enjoy dog play are welcome. Owners will get to enjoy some of the 25 miles of trails at the nature center. Hidden Valley Nature Center is a member-based, community supported organization with 1,000 acres of diverse habitat, many small ponds and vernal pools. Adventure Race

East Grand High is again holding its adventure race, this year with $1,000 in prizes. Come compete in the 20-mile race through the wilderness of Eastern Maine. The stages include an off-trail compass run, a 9-mile mountain bike course, a 7-mile canoe paddle, a climbing wall and additional field obstacles. Participants can race individually, in pairs or on teams. New this year is a 33-mile canoe/kayak race from the headwaters of the Baskahegan, which will run in conjunction with the adventure race. Wild Wildlife

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 in Gray

The Maine Wildlife Park will begin its series of ‘Summer Wildlife Days’ with experts from the W.I.L.D. Center & Zoological Park of New England. The park officials will come share their exotic wildlife critters such as the crested porcupine, Arctic fox, indigo snake, and giant bullfrog. The W.I.L.D Center is a non-profit organization and a federal /state licensed wildlife exhibitor. The “W.I.L.D. Center” Facility is not open to the public. They are located on Route 26 in Gray. Admission to the park is free for ages 3 and under; $5 for ages 4 to 12; $7.00 for adults, and $5.00 for seniors. For more information about the Maine Wildlife Park, go to www.mainewildlifepark.com.

Biddeford Pool Birding

7 a.m. May 4 in Biddeford

Join York County Audubon for a birding trip in search of early migrants. Meet at the Bufflehead Restaurant on Hills Beach Road in Biddeford. All welcome. Call 251-1135.
