Top-seeded University of Southern Maine and No. 6 St. Joseph’s College of Standish are among eight baseball teams competing in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference regional of the NCAA Division III national tournament.

The winner of the double-elimination regional, held at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, Mass., will advance to Appleton, Wisc., for another double-elimination tournament involving eight teams to determine the national champion.

USM (37-7) is scheduled to play No. 8 Daniel Webster (28-10) Wednesday at 1 p.m.

St. Joe’s (30-12) is scheduled to play No. 3 Endicott (32-12) Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Other teams in the ECAC regional: No. 2 Wheaton (30-10), No. 4 Western New England (31-11), No. 5 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (27-11) and No. 7 Salem State (25-13).

Thirty-eight of the 56-team field earned an automatic bid by winning a conference championship. The championship round is scheduled for May 24-28.
