BATH — On Sunday, Sept. 1, under the guidance of expert paddler and naturalist Anne Hammond, a limited number of paddlers can explore the central portion of Merrymeeting Bay and at least two islands: Sturgeon and Bird.

Friends of Merrymeeting Bay offers the activity at 7:30 a.m. at Butler Cove in Bath. Registration is required; call Anne Hammond at 442-0375

Strong currents in these waters demand paddlers be on full alert. Paddlers must have a minimum of intermediate paddling skills, a boat and a flotation device.
