Music and Nightlife: BoDeans to rock the Opera House
WHILE THE ’80s gave us a lot of glitzy bands and over-produced music, it also gave us the straight-ahead rock sound of The BoDeans. The band has been melding rock, country and soul for some 30 years, and this week they’ll be plying their trade in Boothbay Harbor.

Art and Theater: Moody and PSO off and running Sunday
ROBERT MOODY makes his way to the podium for his sixth season as music director of the Portland Symphony Orchestra, opening the season with a pair of concerts that feature guest pianist Orli Shaham performing Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto, as well as music from the ballet “La Peri” and Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony.

Music and Nightlife: Space hosts hip-hop from out in left field
SPACE GALLERY is billing Monday’s show as “left-field hip-hop.” And though we all have Red Sox playoff chances on our minds, sadly the show has nothing to with baseball. It’s a show of eclectic hip-hop artists, including Jel, Serengeti, Sole and Open Mike Eagle.

Art and Theater: Mad Horse opens ‘The School for Lies’
MAD HORSE THEATER COMPANY opens its 28th season with David Ives’ “The School for Lies,” directed by the company’s artistic director Christine Louise Marshall. It’s a French farce, inspired by Moliere’s “The Misanthrope.”
