BRUNSWICK — Laurier (Larry) Joseph Jean, 65, of Harpswell, died suddenly on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Mid Coast Hospital due to complications of non hodgkin’s lymphoma.

He was born to Fernand and Therese Landry Jean on Aug. 29, 1948. He graduated from St. Dominic Regional High School in 1966, attended Bliss College and volunteered in the Army in 1967. He was honorably discharged in 1969 as a member of the 82nd Airborne. On Nov. 15, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart Anita Ouellette Jean.

In 1971, he started his business in residential waterproofing known as Jean’s Waterproofing. By 1988, his business had grown from residential to strictly commercial and industrial waterproofing. He developed an expertise in this field and would often work on large manufacturing facilities, dams and nuclear power plants. In 2000, he expanded his business by opening an office in New Braunfels, Texas. His national reputation in waterproofing created opportunities for him to work throughout the U.S. In 2007 he sold his business due to health reasons.

Larry always made an impression on others with his quick and creative thinking.

Survivors include his wife Anita of 43 years; son, Eric Jean and his wife Carrie of New Braunfels, TX; daughter, Nicole Jean of Quincy, MA; his grandson, Ethan Jean of New Braunfels, TX; sisters, Diane Morn of Auburn, ME, Jacqueline Violette and her husband John of Lewiston, ME; brother, Gilbert Jean of St. George, UT; his sister in-law, Jill Jean of Robbinston, ME; his brother-inlaw, Normand Ouellete and his wife Nora of Dedham, MA; several aunts, many cousins and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Emilien Morin Jr.

A Mass of Christian burial was held today at Holy Cross Church in Lewiston. Committal prayers followed in the Chapel of the Rosary St. Peter’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
