DURHAM, N.H. — Five University of New Hampshire students have been arrested on disorderly conduct charges as police cleared a crowd blocking Main Street after the Red Sox won the World Series.

Police estimate that about 1,000 people gathered to celebrate immediately following the win. The crowd quickly grew to about 3,000 people and after 20 minutes of cheering, fireworks and spraying liquids, police requested multiple times that the crowd disperse for the street to reopen.

Police said people started throwing bottles and cans at the officers. Police started using pepper spray and pepper balls. At Keene State College, police also used pepper spray after students flipped over a vehicle and threw rocks, glass bottles and ice. No one was arrested.

At Plymouth State University, students said small fires were set on campus.
