LISBON

A Lisbon man will serve 42 months in jail and be required to register as a sex offender after pleading guilty in Androscoggin Superior Court last week to two sex crimes involving a relative.

After an investigation by Lisbon police, James T. Davis, 38, was arrested on a warrant issued Dec. 6, 2012, after an Androscoggin County grand jury indictment was issued charging him with nine counts of gross sexual assault.

Court documents show Davis is alleged to have engaged in sexual acts with a close female family member — a minor — on numerous dates from September 2011 to May 2012.

He was arraigned on the charges at Androscoggin Superior Court on Dec. 7, 2012, and a $10,000 unsecured bail was set with conditions he immediately give written notice of any change in address or telephone number to the court.

He provided notice in January that he was living at a motel in Lewiston and was arrested Feb. 8 for allegedly violating a condition of bail by providing a false address to the court, based on an affidavit filed by Lisbon police Detective Bernard McAllister.

Androscoggin County Jail records show he was released Feb. 14.

Davis appeared in superior court in Auburn on Nov. 8, where court documents show he waived indictment and pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual abuse of a minor — a crime punishable by up to five years incarceration and a $5,000 fine.

He was sentenced to five years in the Maine Department of Corrections with all but 42 months suspended and three years probation. He was sentenced to four years with all time suspended for the second count consecutive to the first, and three years probation. His sentence was stayed until Jan. 7, 2014.

According to the documents, nine counts of gross sexual assault contained in the indictment were dismissed because Davis pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

Conditions of his probation require him to complete counseling and treatment as a sexual offender, and prohibit him from having contact with female children under the age of 18 except for supervised contact with female family members with permission of his probation officer or with family supervision. He may not have any contact with the victim.

Davis also is required to register as a sex offender for life.
