NORWAY — Gerald C. Goodwin (Jerry) passed away Nov. 18, 2013, following a fall resulting in a broken hip and then complications. He was 93.

Jerry was born Dec. 15, 1919, in Chebeague Island, Maine, the oldest son of Harry and Violet (Doughty) Goodwin. He graduated from Chebeague Island School and also from the Electrical Trade School in Chicago.

On March 7, 1942, he married Margaret F. Coffill. They had been married over 63 years when she passed away on March 26, 2005.

Jerry was in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier USS San Jacinto. Upon returning home, he was employed at the foundry at Hyde Windlass and then Bath Iron Works retiring in 1982. Jerry then spent his summers working at BFC Marine, as he had a passion for the ocean, pumping gas on the dock. He truly enjoyed spending his days talking with the people and especially enjoyed all his hugs from the women.

Jerry was an avid striped bass fisherman in the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. He also enjoyed his hunting whether it be for ducks, deer or rabbits. In recent years you could find Jerry hunting for cans and bottles.

He was predeceased by his wife; his parents; his 3 sisters, Verna Spaulding, Lillian Murray and June Carpenter; a brother, Neville Goodwin.

He leaves behind a son, Clifford Goodwin and his wife Barbara of So. Paris; a daughter, Ellen Wyman and her husband Bruce of Phippsburg; 6 grandchildren, Grace Wyman, Heidi Ricci, John Goodwin, James Goodwin, Jacob Goodwin, Karen Girardin; 11 great-grandchildren, DJ Bramlett, Drake Bramlett, Jennifer Ricci, Ryan Ricci, Shelby Goodwin, Tyler Goodwin, Summer Goodwin, Taylor Goodwin, Eric Rand, Jared Girardin, Casady Girardin; several nieces and nephews and 3 special people who fondly called him “Grampa,” Brian Larson, and Plum and DeeAnn Potter.

At Jerry’s request there will be no visiting hours.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Oak Grove Cemetery, south side, Old Brunswick Road, Bath, Maine.
