BATH — Royden George Haines, 87, of Heath Lane, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Winship Green in Bath.

He was born in Bath on May 12, 1926, a son of Royden D. and Charlotte L. (Greenleaf) Haines.

He attended Bath schools, graduating from Morse High School. He entered the U.S. Army Air Force on Nov. 30, 1944, serving in World War II in the Philippines as a Mule Skinner that carried the 75-millimeter cannon. He was later a machine gun sergeant, discharged on Dec. 6, 1951, as a corporal. He was employed for the U.S. Navy’s fuel depot in South Harpswell for many years. From December 1970 to December 1980, Royden was employed at the Maine Yankee Power plant in security.

He married Edith B. (Bettis) Haines and Marjorie G. (Chase) Haines.

Royden was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Topsham and was deeply loved by all who knew him. He was a member of the West Grange, American Legion Smith-Tobey Post 21 in Bath and a Scoutmaster in Bath for several years.

He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Marjorie G. Haines; one brother, Anthony B. Haines, and one sister, Nyoka Haines.

He is survived by son, Royden George Haines II of Woodstock, Va.; daughters, Charlotte Alice “Kitty” Doyle and husband John F. Doyle of North Bath and Dora Elizabeth Pierce and husband Samuel Pierce of Woodstock, Va.; one brother, Ardenne S. Haines of North Bath; four sisters, Arnola S. Mullens of Bath, Ramona L. Pearson of Richmond, Delores M. Fitzgerald of Bath and Eulalia A. Barry of Bath; six grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, three greatgrandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, 33 Pinewood Drive in Topsham. Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath.
